The works appropriate the form of anatomical illustrations and allusions to St. Sebastian to explore the issues of medicine, religion, and art. St. Sebastian survived being shot by a arrows and is considered a saint who fought against the plague, and the allusion has both trauma and healing qualities, the same as in medicine. The arrows that struck St. Sebastian are transformed in this work into illustrating lines, suggesting the power and violence of knowledge; the allusion to St. Sebastian not dying from the arrow, the non-semantic writing, suggests a search for artistic redemption outside the scientific system.
